  • What, according to you, is the fundamental difference between Vãstushastra and Fengshui?"
Vastushastra is ancient, Fengshui is about 1200 years old. Both are products of two great civilizations, both aim at creating harmonious habitats, both are deep and profound in their knowledge and analysis, but both differ vastly in principles and practice. In its earliest form, Fengshui was utilized to select locations for burial grounds and tombs, not homes. Vastuvidya, on the other hand, developed as a dedicated and independent school of architecture and design covering a wide spectrum of subjects from town planning to designing furniture and vehicles. Vastu has only one school, Fengshui has notably two major schools – the Form School which focuses on the physical aspect of the landscape, and the Compass School, which focuses on the astrological and cosmological orientation of the site. The newer schools in Feng Shui are the Eastern Black Hat Fengshui and Western Black Hat Fengshui. Vastu follows the Hindu astrological system, Fengshui follows the Chinese calendar. Both have their ardent followers. Feng Shui believes in placing objects in different directions to improve certain aspects of life, so it also became popular as a corrective system. No ancient Vastu text mentions any such practice. There are several other major differences which cannot be listed in this limited space.
  • Why do you recommend the main door with two panels and a Threshold?
The main door with 2 panels allows an easy and balanced flow of pranic energy through the door which is necessary for healthy and balanced growth of family members in all spheres of life. A Threshold is believed to protect the home from many obstacles and problems by barring their entry into the house.
  • We have our office in the basement and are not doing too well. What do we do?
An office in a basement should be the last option. In areas where the commercial spaces are at a premium, an office is a basement is a situational compromise, not a preferred choice. Here are a few steps which you may consider: Use light colours on the walls and do not clutter the walls with unnecessary pictures and hangings. Do not keep heavy furniture, objects, electrical appliances or electric panel on the Northern and Eastern side. Sit on the Southern side and face North or East. Get a mason to create a slope in the floor from SW to NE. Do you have a washroom in your office? Check its location. Have it shifted to NW. Install an Air Ionizer in the Office to improve the air quality. If you are a believer, then install a Sri Yantra in the office, but do so only if you are sure of maintaining its sanctity. Also, avoid installing mass-produced Yantra which are sold on TV and in the market. A Sriyantra should be flawless and should be made only under certain auspicious muhurts. Yes, they will, without any doubt. Living Space has its effect on whoever lives in it, irrespective of whether the person is living for free, is paying a rent, or is the owner. Therefore, if your rented accommodation has vastu defects, then either ask your landlord to contact us for necessary action, or shift elsewhere.
  • I own a vastu-imperfect house, but I rented it out and don’t live in it. Will that house still have any effect on me?"
Yes, most certainly it will, as much as it would be ill-effecting your tenant. Your priority should be to take immediate steps to rectify the vastu faults. It will benefit you as well as your tenant.

  • How can I assess that the Vastu energies are bad in my house?
A home is one’s haven of peace, an extension of one’s mental space and a reflection of one’s personality. But homes which have been built in gross violation of Vastu principles tend to turn into harbingers of insomnia and fatigue, depression, financial difficulties, domestic unhappiness, infertility, mood swings, body pains, stiffness, lumbago, arthritis, rheumatism, or some sort of chronic ailment. The inmates tend to suffer from a lack of sense of security, loss of love in life, drug abuse or alcoholism, and misery. The pets do not stay healthy for long and tend to turn infertile. One would also note the presence of pests, cockroaches, centipedes, and inauspicious animals in such houses. The electric and electronic gadgets fail very frequently. To know more click here

”Indian sacred architecture of whatever date, style, or dedication goes back to something timelessly ancient and now outside India almost wholly lost, something which belongs to the past, and yet it goes forward too, though this the rationalistic mind will not easily admit, to something which will return upon us and is already beginning to return, something which belongs to the future.”
